Pricing your classes without guessing

The Befundo team · August 27, 2026 · 2 min read

Most new teachers price by asking a friend what they charge, then knocking a bit off. It works, but there's a better way: start from what the class costs you to run, then check it against what local families expect.

The quick answer

  • Work out your floor: your hourly cost, including preparation, travel and materials.
  • Check the local range for the same subject and format, then pick a point in it on purpose.
  • Say how often you collect, not only how much, and put both on the class page.

Per session, per month or per term?

  • Per session is easy to understand and suits drop-in or one-to-one lessons.
  • Per month smooths your income and suits a weekly class.
  • Per term commits families for longer and suits a course with a clear beginning and end.

Whatever you choose, say it plainly. "$30 a session, paid monthly" stops the question before it's asked.

Group classes

A small group can cost each family less and earn you more per hour than one to one. Set a minimum below which you won't run it, and a maximum above which the class stops working.

Show it on your class page

On Befundo, each class has a price, what it's per (session, hour, week, month or course) and how often you collect, all shown to families before they register. You can set a maximum class size, and you can choose "Price on request" if you'd rather talk first.

Getting paid

Befundo doesn't take payments or a cut. You can add your own Venmo, Zelle, PayPal or payment link so families know where to pay, and record what arrives so you can see who has paid without chasing.

Set it up

Open your class, press Edit class, set the price and how often you collect, and check how the class page reads to a family.
