Teaching online, in person, or both

The Befundo team · August 22, 2026 · 1 min read

Online teaching isn't a lesser version of a class in a room. It's a different format. It suits some subjects and ages well and others badly, and many teachers now run a mix.

The quick answer

  • Online works well for older children, small groups and subjects that happen on a screen or a page.
  • In person is better for young children and for anything physical: instruments, sport, art with materials.
  • A mix often works best: in person most weeks, online when travel or weather gets in the way.

What works online

Math, languages, reading and coding all travel well. So do music theory and one-to-one instrument lessons for children who can already play a little. Keep online groups small, and keep sessions shorter than you would in person.

What doesn't

Very young children struggle to stay with a screen for long. Anything where you need to move a child's hand, check their posture or hand out materials is harder through a camera. Be honest with families about this. They'll trust you more.

Running an online class on Befundo

You can teach in Befundo's own live room, with a shared whiteboard, and the register fills itself in from who joined. Or you can keep your own Zoom, Google Meet or Teams link. It's shown only to the families in that class, never on your public page.

Running a mix

Set the class format to hybrid and say on the class page how the weeks split. If you move or cancel a session, every family in the class is told.

Set it up

When you add or edit a class, choose Online, In person or Hybrid, and pick Befundo's room or your own meeting link.
